Emergency lighting is used in an emergency situation when the main power supply is cut and any normal illumination fails.  The emergency lights will kick in and illuminate exits routes and can provide light to exits in case of the unlikely event of an emergency.

Emergency lights can be either maintained or non-maintained. A Non-maintained emergency lighting is a luminaire made solely for emergency use. It is designed to come on in the event of a mains power failure, making sure all emergency exit routes are clearly illuminated, but will not be active as your normal day-to-day lighting system.
